The sitcom where Love Is All Around

"[Mary Richards has] always been so much a part of me.... We are soul mates."--Mary Tyler Moore, in Canada's TV Guide on the character she played from 1970 to 1977

When The Mary Tyler Moore Show debuted on CBS on September 19, 1970, it was clear that this was a sitcom unlike any before it. For the first time, a female lead character on television was leading a happy, successful life without necessarily looking for "Mr. Right." Mary Richards, the series' main character, was the type of woman every man wanted to marry and every woman wanted to be. She stole viewers' hearts with her girl-next-door personality and warm smile. The show was able to handle serious issues such as freedom of the press, premarital sex, and divorce in an honest, funny, intelligent manner without preaching to the audience. As a further testament to the series and its stars, Mary Tyler Moore was awarded a record twenty-nine Emmys in its seven seasons.

Both Amazon and iTunes downloads are a great way to get new fans to check out the show, since they don't require you to purchase a whole season at once. Amazon is also selling all 4 seasons on DVD in one box set. This would probably be more convenient than buying them individually.
